Why Recycle
From used pods to new products, the life of your pod doesn’t end with a great-tasting cup of coffee.
Podback recycles every part of your pod: Plastic, aluminium, coffee and Podback bags are all given a second life, here in the UK.
Aluminium
At our recycling hub in East Yorkshire, aluminium pods are shredded to remove the coffee. Our recycling partner in South Wales melts down bales of pods, and the metal is reused in the manufacture of drink cans and car components.
Plastic
Our recycling partner in Lincolnshire, cleans, blends and extrudes the shreds to produce pellets of recycled plastic.
Coffee grounds
From our recycling hub in East Yorkshire the used coffee grounds are transported to a food waste recycling plant in South Yorkshire. Here they recycled along with other food wastes using a process called anaerobic digestion. The process creates renewable energy (biogas) which is used to power businesses and homes. The by-product of the process is a nutrient rich fertiliser, which is supplied to local farmers as a soil improver.
Podback bags
At our recycling hub in East Yorkshire the pods are removed from the bags, and the bags are baled. They are transported to a specialist plastic film recycling plant in Lancashire. Here they are mixed with other flexible plastics and recycled into pellets, ready to made back into more useful products.
